South Lawndale

South Lawndale is better known by the name of its main district, Little Village, the Mexican capital of the Midwest. The arch over 26th Street opens onto one of the highest-grossing commercial corridors in Chicago, two miles of taquerias, quinceañera shops, and street vendors that feel closer to Guadalajara than to the Loop.

The Pink Line serves the neighborhood's north side at Kostner and Pulaski, with the 26th Street bus as the workhorse. Housing is dense two-flats and cottages at working-family prices. The neighborhood is young, entrepreneurial, and tight-knit, with environmental justice battles (the old Crawford plant) part of its recent identity. Little Village suits people who want an actual neighborhood economy at their doorstep and Spanish as a daily soundtrack.
