About Lake View
Lake View is the North Side's population center and it operates at full volume: Wrigley Field and its game-day economy, the Southport Corridor's boutiques, Halsted Street's nightlife in Northalsted, and the lakefront path at the end of it all. Three L lines (Red, Brown, Purple express) and a Walk Score of 97 make it one of the easiest places in Chicago to live without a car.
You pay for the convenience in rent, and on summer weekends you share the sidewalk with everyone else's bachelor party. But the value calculation is stronger than it looks: skip the car, walk to everything, and the premium over quieter neighborhoods shrinks or disappears. Lake View suits people in their first decade of Chicago life, and the ones who never got around to leaving because the logistics are simply too easy.
Lake View offers exceptional transit access: buses and trains are frequent enough that most residents get around without a car. A car-free lifestyle is realistic here, which is the single biggest driver of the true-cost advantage.
With a Walk Score of 97, Lake View is a "Walker's Paradise": daily errands almost never require a car.
At roughly $0/year for 0 cars, transportation is negligible line item in Lake View's true cost. The neighborhood is served by the Red, Brown, Purple lines.
